WASHINGTON, and BALTIMORE, December 16, 2021 — D.C. Hunger Solutions and Maryland Hunger Solutions have been named the recipients of the inaugural Stuart. A Freudberg Award for Regional Partnership.
The Stuart A. Freudberg Award is presented to organizations or individuals that provide leadership in support of regional policies or programs endorsed by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) in memory of Stuart A. Freudberg, who served several leadership roles in his 40-year COG career.
D.C. Hunger Solutions Director Beverley Wheeler and Maryland Hunger Solutions Director Michael J. Wilson received the honor jointly with Virginia Hunger Solutions Director Salaam Bhatti. The award recognizes their advocacy work to improve federal nutrition programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Access Program (SNAP) and other programs within the region that address hunger.
D.C. Hunger Solutions and Maryland Hunger Solutions also helped field COG’s regional food security calls at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“D.C. Hunger Solutions is grateful for this recognition. As we strive to end hunger in the nation’s capital, we recognize that it requires a regional effort and look forward to continuing our cooperative efforts,” said director Beverley Wheeler.
“This recognition of the Maryland Hunger Solutions team makes us grateful,” said director Michael J. Wilson. “We aren’t motivated by awards, but by the opportunity to reduce hunger and poverty in Maryland in partnership with allied organizations and volunteers.”
D.C. Hunger Solutions and Maryland Hunger Solutions are state initiatives of the Food Research & Action Center (FRAC).
